It's pretty easy for me to list my favourite computer games because many of them have a high amount of replayability. Incidentally, this means many of my favourite games reside in the role-playing and strategy genres.
Disgaea 3:
The game has the same wackiness that the first entry in the series has, whereas Disgaea 2 didn't really share the first title's penchant for humour. It had humour, but not to the same degree. The game also happens to belong in the turn based strategy genre.
The game might not have the same strategic value that is found in titles such as Jagged Alliance 2, but it beats most other games in terms of being addictive. In fact, it might beat all other games within the genre in that sense.
The reason is that the game features good humour and it's pretty unique. No other game out there allows players to level their characters to level 9,999. On top of that, characters can be sent back to level one and begin the grind to the level cap again. However, they would be stronger at level one than they were previously at that level. If that isn't enough, items can also be levelled up to level one hundred by diving into item worlds. Yes, items have their own world inside of them that is randomly generated. Another addictive part of the game is the fact players can go from dealing a few points of damage per hit to dealing millions of damage in one attack.
Oh, and what other game out there features penguins that say dood! and explode when they're thrown? Not any that I'm aware of. That's just one small example of the game's wacky sense of humour and charm.
On top of everything else, the game features over a hundred hours worth of gameplay if players want to do everything. There're tonnes of bonus content outside of the main storyline.
X-COM series:
Instead of listing one or two titles from the series, all of the strategy games deserve a mention here. X-COM: UFO Defence in particular is a great game and is the first title in the series. The games are also tough and each has a lot of replayability because no two games ever play out the same way.
While the games are old, no game has managed to replicate the magic formula that makes the X-COM games so great. There have been numerous attempts to do so, but none have succeeded despite the advancements in technology.
A lot of the series' appeal comes from the fact it's tough, but also because players are tasked with defending Earth from alien invasion. In each game, players start with weak weaponry and have little
