Aaron Spelling's television legacy is a testament of creating great shows (Charlie's Angels, The Mod Squad, Dynasty) and correctly choosing the right to executive produce (Melrose Place, 91210).
Trying to choose which one of his characters were the greatest was tougher than figuring out if Fallon Carrington Colby (Emma Samms) was really abducted by aliens on the episode of The Colbys, below is a list of the ten most interesting characters of Aaron Spelling era. Some of the rankings are tongue in cheek, but most of the characters deserved to be on the list:
Alexis Carrington (Dynasty) -Bar none, Dynasty's Alexis Carrington is the best character ever created on an Aaron Spelling television show. Bitchy, smart and sexy, Alexis is the antithesis of a true female villain. Before Joan Collins was introduced as the ex-wife of Blake Carrington, Dynasty was struggling to match the firepower J.R. the rest of the Ewing clan on and Dallas.
But after Collins left the world of bad B-movies and joined the ABC nighttime soap, the ratings skyrocketed; catapulting the show and Collins to must see TV in the mid 80s. It didn't matter if Alexis was fighting with Blake's current wife Crystal or seducing every man who stepped into her web of sex and deceit, Alexis Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan was the woman you wanted to have in the boardroom and the bedroom
Mr. Roarke (Fantasy Island)-Cool like the other side of the pillow with the smoothness of rich Corinthian leather, Ricardo Montalbon was perfect as Mr. Roarke, the mysterious host of Fantasy Island; a place where you could fulfill your dreams or face to your nightmares. Although Aaron Spelling might have been only person who knew if Mr. Roarke was God, the Devil or simply really cool guy in a white suite, Fantasy Island was the place to be on Saturday nights at 10PM.
Jill, Kelly and Sabrina (Charlie's Angels) -Which Angel would do you like best? If you wanted the leggy model type there was Kelly Garrett (Jaclyn Smith). If you liked brains, there was sassy Sabrina Duncan (Kate Jackson). If super sexy girl next door was your ultimate dream, then Jill Monroe (Farrah Fawcett-Majors) was your choice. Although Fawcett received most of the attention, each Angel fulfilled young boy's dreams and grown men's desires. The ironic thing is that some viewers forgot that the Angels were not bimbos with guns. There were police officers turned detectives who could solve crimes as well as Kojak, Cannon and Colombo...and the bikinis
