Everyone is looking for a way to cut things out of their lives that they don't need. The financial crisis that has struck people across America in the last several months has made us realize that saving money is one of the most important things that we need to do. We can't completely cut grocery shopping out of our lives because we all need to eat. There are ways to save money at the grocery store though.

Tips to help you make wise choices at the grocery store that will help you save money:

The Obvious

There are some obvious things that you can do. Use coupons as often as possible. Only use them to buy things that you were going to buy anyway. Buying for the sake of using the coupons that you have will not save you a dime. Go to grocery stores that will double coupons.

Don't go to the store hungry. That is the first rule of thumb when you are preparing to shop for food. Going to the grocery store hungry and expecting not to want everything you see is like taking a child to Toys R Us and telling him/her that he/she can't have a toy.

Use the sales fliers to get the best buys throughout the store. Write a list before you leave home and stick with the list when you get to the store. Staying focused on your list will keep you from wandering to items that you don't need.

Buy store brands. Many store brands are just as good as and sometimes better than the name brand product. They are also a great way to save money on your groceries. The store brand is often more than a dollar cheaper than the name brand. This makes them worth their weight in gold.

Super Bargains

You will often see shelves that look odd or out of place. These little shelves can hold wonderful bargains. Those little shelves in the middle of the store with different items on it is where the grocery store puts things that they want to sell fast. Such items can include anything from deodorant to canned goods. These are often items that have been discontinued or may be slightly dented. The price is marked extremely low for quick sale. Look on these shelves to save more on your grocery bill.

New Items

Look for shelf tags that are displaying "new item" under the product. These items are almost always cheaper in the first week or so. You can get name brand products much cheaper if you buy the "new" products.

Wall of Value

Groceries stores will also have a "wall of value" type of thing. It is usually near an entrance door in the produce area. There are many products that people use everyday on display there. Look through
