Helium offers excellent opportunities for writers to continue their education. No matter what their day jobs are there are hints, solutions to workplace problems and facts and needed information floating around. No matter the subject, there are writers adept at getting ideas across that will make one better at their other job.
Their subject matter is vast. Reading at Helium is an experience in itself and writers learn many things while simply rating. As an example, if there’s nothing to write about all one has to do is to wander over the titles until something rings a bell. You don’t necessarily have to read the titles, and it’s often best not to until after you’ve written your take on the idea generated by this method, but as a jump starter channel surfing is unbeatable.
Note: Channel hopping is not for contest writers. They must take it or leave it. In most cases they would as soon leave it but in order to win they must write about subjects they are less than enthusiastic about.
Helium titles are also excellent for quotes but truthfully, it’s better to go after primary sources—the paper printing the real story, an expert on the subject, or some other acknowledgeable source. Helium is best at adding that extra bit of information and showing where more information can be found. After all, Helium is for writers to whet their writing skills on, not to set themselves up as experts. That, even though no doubt many Helium writers are experts in their fields. Helium writers must never lift words from others without giving credit. Everyone at Helium soon learns that.
Useful information is everywhere on the site. Websites that pay for writing is a topic that is presently holding most writers hostage. Helium of course leads the way. A writer can browse around and as they do, questions arise. They may be further explored in articles. Helium is an excellent way to gather ideas. Also it’s an excellent way to pass time. One good thing about reading on Helium is that they are knowledgeable. You find one article that opens up a discussion and others, as you wander on, will fill in the details and give insight.
Opportunity to be of service abound. Further along while viewing sites you meet worthy authors that you might simply want to send a congratulatory message. Writers work hard and often the only thanks they get are these appreciatory messages.
When the words begin to blur about Helium vs. Associated Content and you know all you want to know, you switch channels. Maybe you’ll find yourself an hour later perusing The Business of Writing and Blogging sites. Writers are always in need of tips on how best to do this. And yes, any tips on how to increase income while writing for Helium or some other site, is always welcome.
All in all, Helium is an educational place even though it didn’t start out that way. Well, unless you consider it a haven for writers and that it is.
