Cape Cod, Massachusetts is one of the most popular Summer vacation getaways in all of the United States. Every summer cars with licence plates from around the country flood Rte. 3 from the cape all the way into Boston. It's actually quite a matter of contention for Massachusetts residents.
There is no denying the appeal of Cape Cod in the summer. All of the Cape is surrounded by beaches. The food is fabulous, if you like fresh seafood and authentic New England Clam Chowder. Shopping there is like rummaging through a treasure chest, most of the stores look like houses and are filled with local treasures. There is a great deal to do and see on Cape Cod in the summer.
Activities and Attractions
Horseneck Beach is just one of the many idyllic beaches on Cape Cod, but it is certainly one of the most popular. It sits on the western end of Buzzard's Bay and visitors can fish, swim, camp and even go boating there.
Whale watches are another popular activity to enjoy while on summer vacation in Cape Cod. You can find whale watch ships just about anywhere on the Cape, but one of the most popular leaves out of Provincetown, MA. Provincetown is on the very tip of Cape Cod and the whale watch ship, the Portuguese Princess sails out of there daily during the summer months. Water sports are another popular past-time on the Cape. Visitors should keep an eye out for jet-ski rental shops, they are all over the area. Visitors can also take a ferry to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket from Wood's Hole. It's a good idea to get lodging on the islands for a night or two as there is a lot to see and do on them as well.
There is also golfing, deep-sea fishing, hiking, bicycling, tours by land, sea or air and just about any summer vacation fun you can think of. It can be fun to spend a day or two wandering around Cape Cod with no plans. Your bound to find something enjoyable you never even thought of.
Lodging
There are many places to camp on Cape Cod, the most popular being Horseneck Beach State Reservation. For visitors who aren't the type for camping, there are plenty of summer rentals, cottages, inns and hotels. You could even stay off Cape Cod, but the traffic going on and off the Cape in the summer can be brutal, so it is not advisable.
The Provincetown Inn is a beautiful resort on the very tip of Cape Cod. It is right on the Atlantic Ocean and even has its own private beach. When it comes to summer vacations, it really doesn't get any better than Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The atmosphere is very relaxed and there is fun to be had by all. Just bring sun screen and sunglasses, you'll need them.
