Unfortunately, you cannot say that one option is better than the other. When debating on having an abortion or giving up the child for adoption, there are a bunch of factors and variables to think about. The situation and circumstances are quite different from one person to another. Still, one cannot simply say that one option is better than the other. There are pros and cons to both abortion and adoption. In an ironic sense, adoption and abortion are pretty much on the same side of the coin.
Abortion:
In most cases, I tend to be against abortion. To me, it tends to be a very cowardly way out for not being responsible and accountable for one's actions. In a nutshell, it is pretty much trying to run away from responsibility. However, you cannot group all abortion cases together. The world does not really work that way. There are cases in which I do support abortion for the most part.
What if the mother's health was in danger? That is grounds for an abortion. The mother's health is at risk. If the mother ends up dying, the fetus will end up dying as well. In the realistic case, the fetus cannot be saved in that respect. That is something one has to think about.
What if the baby was the product of a rape? There are many cases in which this has happened. The baby is pretty much a grim reminder of what happened to the mother. Sadly, the child is pretty much damaged goods. Of course adoption could be an option. But, the child will probably want to find out his/her birth parents. When the child finds out, it could have a devastating effect.
Ask yourself this question: How would you feel if you learned that you were the product of rape rather than love?
To make matters worse, what if the baby was the product of rape and incest? While rape is bad enough, rape and incest is even worse. That is going to have a very devastating effect on the victim and child later on in life. A child out of incest is very much damaged goods. Their lives have been ruined the moment that they have entered into this world.
One should take a look at the Josef Fritzl case back in 2008. It was revealed that Josef locked up his daughter for twenty-four years and he repeatedly raped her. There were plenty of pregnancies that had come out of it as a result. Socially, those children are damaged goods. While the world may sympathize for those children, there is the lack of empathy. Not many would want to be around them. Those children could
