Second Life: The ups and downs of a virtual life

Second life isn't really a game at least not in the typical sense, instead it is engine for games that the players of second life build. And second life only limits what game you can build by your skill, imagination and computer memory.

Playing second life is free, but if you want to buy things you will need to earn money in the game. The easiest way to get money in the game is to buy it. This supplies a revenue stream for the game, but you never have to spend any money if you are content being a vagabond.

You start second life with your avatar and little more. An avatar is your virtual self and unlike characters in other games this "character" doesn't have stats or even a set appearance. You can change the clothes, appearance, even the skin of your character. Because of this you will see characters running through the game that are giant dinosaurs, wizards, ghosts, and more. In fact your character can look like nearly anything that you want.

The biggest problem that Second Life has is knowing where to start. If you simply enter the game you are little more than a tourist in a world with graphics that aren't as good as most other games on the market. You have no home and if you are playing the game for free, almost no money.

The instructions once you begin will show you how to do things like change the appearance of your character and how to find things but in the end it is up to you to find what you are interested in, and if you look hard enough you can find nearly anything and if you can't find it you can create it.

The creation process is one of the major points of the game. You can create objects, program scripts, even build homes and once you have created something useful you can even build a store and sell those things to other people.

If building doesn't appeal to you there are many other things you can do. There are parties, bands, movies, speeches and more and though sometimes discovering about this can be difficult if you begin to join groups of people who have interests you they become far easier to locate.

There are games available in second life as well. With the ability to create anything you want there are people who have created games. Typically, these involve getting a weapon or tool. These will give you hp and skills that you can use to fight in the area that is dedicated to the game. And if you find one that you particularly like you may even be able to help build in the things you would like to see.

If you are expecting a life when you pick up Second Life you will be disappointed, but no matter what your hobby or interests are you can find it on second life as well as creating a home, showcasing your talents or playing a game it is all available on second life and more.
