Port of Miami: Things a cruise ship passenger needs to know

by Marva Pearson

Created on: June 07, 2009

Cruises are a lot of fun for your money. After you have your ship picked and are ready to fly to Miami, you might want to come in a day earlier. If you come in early you can relax a bit and see the sights that Miami has to offer. Actually at the Port of Miami, you can see the other ships coming and going. But most of all you won't be rushed to get to your boat on time. No one wants to get left at the dock. After all the planning and effort that went into this trip, you want to be on that boat. You never know when a plane may need a last minute check or if weather causes it to be late, so your best bet is to arrive a day early and have your passport ready.

The Port of Miami is easy to get to and even easier to navigate through. And be ready for your first of many photos. As you are winding your way to get to the boat from the Port you get you photo taken. So you might want to get primped before you get there so you have a lovely before cruise photo. And on the actual cruise ship that you sail on, you'll have plenty of photo ops throughout the duration of the cruise. And keep this in mind when you are planning your budget, because all the photos on the ship come in various packages for purchasing.

Another thing to know before cruising is that you won't have your luggage right away, and believe me you are going to want to hit the pool or see the lay of the ship. So instead of sitting in your cabin waiting on your luggage, have a carry-on with a swimsuit or change of clothes so you aren't waiting on your bags to arrive. It's actually amazing how they get all the bags to their rightful owners in the amount of time that they do. And before you actually set sail, there's a safety drill. Safety first remember, even on vacation.

And as far as the food, it's true what you've ever heard. The food is awesome and you don't have to settle for one entree, you can have both entree's in the main dining room. And, the television in your cabin allows you to see what's for dinner every day. It's actually the real "must see tv". You can book your excursions on the tv also. But speaking of excursions, you might want to have them booked before you arrive. A lot of the popular excursions get booked fast. The cruise lines website usually allows for booking these before you arrive on the ship. And before I forget, if you are going to do a few excursions you might want to book a later dining time for ships that don't have flexible dining options. That
