"Heart of Ice" is one over 150 books penned by bestselling author Diana Palmer. With dozens of recognitions including the "Romance Writers of America" award, Ms. Palmer has become a beloved writer for her romance novels. Part of the "Western Lovers Denim & Diamonds" series, "Heart of Ice" was released in 1984 by Silhouette Books.
Katriane "Kati" James was a successful romance writer living in New York with her best friend Ada Winthrop. Just before the holidays, Ada announces that she has invited her older brother Egan to spend Christmas in New York with them, away from his Wyoming ranch. Kati can only imagine how the holiday will be after their fallout during one of her visits to the ranch. Egan has misjudged Kati and banished her from the ranch and even now, Egan judged Kati by the steamy novels she wrote. Someone who portrays love scenes and sensational interludes must have loose morals herself.
Egan Winthrop was cold as steel and treated Kati with venom. He arrived in New York and spewed that venom every chance he could until he could no longer hide what he was feeling for the beautiful redhead. He didn't hide the fact that he wanted Kati and his temper got the best of him with the thought of anyone else having her. Experienced women are what he craved and he knew this woman would satisfy his current short-term needs.
Even with his quick temper and careless words thrown about concerning her reputation that he believed her to have, Katriane loved Egan. And when Egan invites Kati to his Wyoming ranch to research the territory for her new book, she leaves New York behind knowing that he wanted more than just a friendly houseguest. However, Kati has a secret that could force Egan away from the one thing she truly wants - Egan's love.
"Heart of Ice" has all the similarities of other Diana Palmer novels. In fact, if you have read "Betrayed by Love", then you have basically read the same storyline except the rogue doesn't take the innocence of the heroine. The cowboy in this novel is crude and demeaning and the woman basically cowers down because of her love for the scoundrel trying to seduce her. However, just like in most of Palmer's books, you become attached to the characters. This short book just appears to be a rewrite of other Palmer novels but is good for a quick afternoon read if you are wanting something to bide your time for a few hours. "Heart of Ice" is an interesting romance with strong characters but lacks imagination.
