I believe the Republican Party will become the torture party. Under the guidance of Dick Cheney, whose only military action was to get drunk, sneak up on a friend and shoot him in the face and Rush Limbaugh, who received a military deferment for an anal cyst; the conservatives will rally around the notion, that people who differ from the party stalwarts by race or religion, should be tortured on general principles.
Limbaugh, who demonstrated loyalty and perseverance by divorcing four wives and Cheney, who demonstrated devotion to the military as well as physical courage by getting deferred five times, are the proper standard bearers for the modern Republican Party. When you consider that the present state of affairs for the Grand Old Party was ushered in by George Bush, a conservative, who spent money like a drunken sailor, bankrupted the nation, and got the US into an unnecessary, illegal, nation building war in Iraq; the Republicans should be known as a party of lying hypocrites, who will torture anyone that frightens them, any time they feel scared.
Although Rush Limbaugh is the nation's loudest blow-hard, I think that the true leader of the Republican Party must be Dick Cheney. Dick Cheney cemented this role in my mind by his participation in the outing of a deep cover CIA agent for purely political reasons, holding a secret energy summit, the likely purpose of which was to raise the price of gas to $4 a gallon and finally forcing the CIA to twist and cherry pick intelligence; to support an unnecessary war in Iraq and then blaming the CIA when it all went wrong. There has been no bigger screw up on the national stage than Dick Cheney. He is a world class screw up and proud of it. Anyone who is stupid and proud of it, is the natural leader of the Republican Party. Gosh, it was so hard to pass up Rush Limbaugh for this "honor", but actions speak louder than words.
Two other national Republican "leaders" who look out of place and should probably exit stage left are, RNC head Michael Steele and former presidential candidate Senator John McCain. The party has passed John McCain by and his unwillingness to torture people, puts him out of step with the party.
Michael Steele is plainly out of his depth. After seeing others savaged and humiliated when they went after Rush Limbaugh, Steele attacked the dean of conservative talk radio anyway.
After groveling before the corpulent one, and offering to have Rush Limbaugh's baby-if only he could-Michael Steele has been allowed to once again empty the waste cans and mop out the stalls down at the RNC. But it is clear he is not the boss.
A dark horse candidate for the face of the party is Sarah Palin. Since she is still doing things like quitting the Alaska governor's job and then saying she is not a quitter, one can say she is still stupid after all these years. Conservatives like stupid, after all they loved George Bush.
