Parenting is a great challenge for a couple, and unbelievably so for single parent. The pressure you will have to go through can be tremendous, if you do not have any support. You will soon find yourself getting more comfortable as a single parent with proper planning.

Financial planning

You have to double your effort in financial planning for the education, living expenses, health care, and luxury goods for you, and your children. Bear in mind that your children needs, and wants will only keep increasing as they grow up.

Interaction and support for your children

You need all the help you can get from your parents, siblings or friends to help you take care of your children when you are at work. You will need to arrange after school care if you have no other support available.

No matter how busy you are, you have to sit down with your children before they go to bed, or on weekends to communicate with them, provide them with the support, and love that they need. Children staying with single parent, can be emotionally vulnerable, and they need all the attention you can provide for them.

Friends, and family support

Do not neglect yourself. You need to be healthy mentally, and physically in order to take good care of your children. Confide in your friends, and family members. They can be your strong support, and will help you reduce your stress, and get over the tough times.

Socialize

You can be happier now that you are single, and available again. Remember to widen your social circles, and you will realize being a single parent is not the end of the world. You will get to meet more people, and improve on your social skills.

Counselling

Consider going to a counsellor if you think you need a professional to listen to you, and provide you with advice on how to cope with single parenthood. You may get to meet other single parents that may share their knowledge with you, and make your whole experience less traumatic.

Relax

Learn to relax, and do the things you want. People around you may have given you a lot of advice on how you cope with your current situation. You need a break, so that you have the energy to move on to a new chapter of your life.

Personal growth

Even though your children, and work have taken up majority of your time, you need to make time for yourself. Take up a hobby or course if you can. Personal growth, and development is an important aspect of life, thus you need to live life to the fullest, and remember to love yourself.

With proper planning, you will gradually gain more confidence, and start to feel more comfortable with being a single parent as time goes by.
