Depression occurs when a person has a weak perception of everything around him. Everything he does isn't right for him. He is discontent. He is easily exhausted. He gets nervous easily. He has negative views in everything he sees. He sees the future as hopeless and all that goes in his mind are the negative thoughts. To add all these things, the sum is depression. If a person caters to all the negative things that are possible in life, then the mind and body goes weak until such time that the person cannot take them anymore and that results to depression.
A person who is depressed will likely lose happiness in life. Being sad is the only chance that this thing could bring to a person. After sadness come the mood swings, the anxiety and lack of self-confidence. Then negativity will follow making the person uncomfortable with life. If friends advice him to take things lightly, he would think his friends are just making things easier for him but the truth is that everything is very serious. If he sees some hope in what he is doing, he would be too excited and would expect too much. This will cause too much displeasure in the person if things don't work out but instead fail. The person will be buried to a more depressing situation and sometimes the person will lose all hope of being successful.
Depression causes one to have a different view of life. This is the reason why people who are depressed could hardly relate to other people around them. They look at things as merely things displayed in front of them that they are missing the more important side of that thing. Depressed people are too busy thinking of the negative side of things that they fail to see what is good and positive about that thing or person. Sometimes they even hear things and see things that are non-existent and that only exist in their own world.
If the depression is mild, it could be easily cured. If the people around the depressed person are considerate and understanding enough to adjust to the moods and thinking of the depressed person, there could be some changes. But if the people around the depressed person are also negative thinkers then things would not improve, instead things could become worse. Depressed people need positive thinkers around them who could make the situation easier for them and not worse. To a depressed person, even the slightest mistake that he sees in you could ignite the feeling of self-pity which will make the depression become worse than it already is. People around a depressed person must always be careful in the things they say and do to avoid adding to the anxiety of the person.
People who are used to having a person to depend on and who have a weak and negative self assessment are people whoa re often caught with depression. But this could depend on the person. I know a person who is taking depression pills and who goes to her doctor often, who has become very successful in her life. When I talked to her, she said that she is spending all her time working and making her business grow to forget about her plight. Depression was what she called a thing that could ruin you and swallow you whole if you let it but if you have that fighting spirit it could be a challenge.
I often wonder how she did it but she is proving herself in the business world. Depression she said is not a reason not to be able to achieve something in life. It is just something that makes life uncomfortable but it is something that could be used to one's advantage. Acceptance of the reality is what she said is the only way to make depression a positive thing to a person even if it is a tough battle between what the person really is and what the real world is.
