Ways that Fast Food Nation and Super Size Me have impacted the fast food industry

Movies such as "Supersize Me" and "Fast Food Nation" are both very influential movies. I say this because it seems all of these "Fast Food" restaurants are trying to relate to people trying to lose a couple of pounds and really where would you find a fast food restaurant that's all healthy food and does extremely well, YOU WOULDN'T. McDonalds and Subway and Burger king etc. are just an example of the impact of these movies.

With such products as healthy sandwiches to healthy choice menus and all of these followed by creation of these movies showing " The Dark Side" of the fast food business. In reality though the human mind disregards these sorts of things in the belief that if a burger is only 300 calories therefore it's not bad for you, but really it could be worse than the 500 calorie sandwich.

Now if McDonalds was to come out with a sort of Health Nut selection people would automatically think "ok I can have 50 of these burgers at only 200 calories each and ill only be giving myself a stroke". Ehh what's half of your bodily functions over a nice meal right? Wrong! When movies like this come out people are supposed to give fast food a second thought, but to correspond with this, thinking fast food restaurants put up big signs and commercials to make people think well wow these guys are really thinking about me, when really they're thinking about your wallet.

You think these fat cat executives of large fast food corporations care if you die of obesity or that movies are coming out telling people to stop eating at fast food restaurants because deep down they know you're not going to listen, and they embrace that, by coming out with 5000 calorie burgers.....seriously?

However on another hand, some people do take these things under advisement and since movies like these have come out there had been a 12% percent decrease in fast food purchases worldwide, blame it on the economic crisis but these movies probably did persuade people to stop buying as much fast food and to start eating at home.

If a majority of the population took a moment to grasp the message in these movies I think that there would be fewer casualties by obesity. But for now if these movies have affected the fast food business, it's hard to tell when you have shows like The Heaviest Man in the World and Fat Camp. But if Hollywood continues to make movies like this that show the harsh reality to its farthest extent, then we'll see some change.
