Poetry: City living

by Simon Wright

The hassle of the hustle

Car alarms past midnight's veil

Awake me from my sleep,

Whilst drunks fight fights with no refine

Along the puke stained grimy streets.

Sirens sound and voices raised

Add further to the noise,

Whilst high above in window framed

I dream of sniper joys.

-

Far from the fields and streams of youth

Far from that far flung land,

The boy that wide eyed viewed the world

Has now become a man.

How changed my world view has become

How changed my sense of awe,

So shocked to see the change in me

Now hid behind my wall.

-

The hassle of the hustle

The hubbub and the bustle.

This city life with all it's strife

Is driving me insane.
