Several really great reasons provide answers to the question of "why make homemade bread?'" Homemade bread baking in the oven with that wonderful aroma wafting through the air really contributes to a welcoming, warm environment. Healthy and delicious bread is at your fingertips with homemade bread, too.

Before the 1940's, wheat was ground using stone grinders. The speed of the grinders was slow. The slower rotation of the grinding stones did not generate high temperatures, and as a result, the food value of the wheat was preserved. The full nutritional value could then be preserved in the flour used for making bread. Truly wholesome bread is a great reason to make homemade bread.

Bread has been improved, but stone ground flour cannot be beat. Weight watchers can avoid empty calories with homemade bread made from the whole grain flour. As it is now, most bread that is readily available on the grocer's shelves is all about some whole grain added on top of empty calories of the flour that has been ground in a high speed mechanical process.
One of the most important vitamins lost through modern milling process is vitamin E. Vitamin E helps repair scar tissue, and adds to general stamina amongst a host of other benefits.

A home bread baker can eliminate any of the chemical additives often found in the bread at the grocery store. For preserving your own bread, grind up a few calcium tablets, add it to the mix, and the shelf life of your homemade bread will be extended.

When you make your own bread the healthy way, the flavor is so much better than ordinary store bought bread. Homemade bread made with stone ground flour is definitely one of the healthy foods that tastes better.
