Father's Day gift ideas for single dads

When Father's Day rolls around each year, you tend to hear a lot about how it gets less attention than Mother's Day. In fact, the idea of it getting less attention actually tends to receive more attention than the holiday itself. The same can be said of the general level of admiration that single fathers receive as opposed to single mothers. Because of this inherent inequity, it is even more important that single dads not only get their props on Father's Day but also that care and consideration go into the gift selection process. In choosing a gift for your single father this year, the key thing to focus on is who your father is as a person. In the case of the single dad, you basically have four facets to keep in mind.

1. You single father is a father.

Do your able best to select a gift that celebrates your dad for his fatherly qualities. This is, after all, the whole point of the holiday. What has your father done for you that helped make you who you are today? What about him do you appreciate the most? How does being around your dad make you feel good inside? Think hard and try to choose a gift that reflects or symbolizes the answer to one of these questions. Even if your father is not the sentimental type, a gift that tells him that you feel he has done right by you is always the way to go.

2. Your single father is a guy.

It is good idea to think of gifts with a masculine feel to them. Even if your dad is not the butch type, if he's single, than odds are you and any siblings you might have are his nearest and dearest and anything you give him that shows him that you think of him as manly, larger-than-life, or just simply the coolest dude you know is going to go over really well.

3. Your single father is a single (gasp!).

Maybe you are not all that comfortable with admitting it to yourself, but if you have a single father, that means he is technically on-the-market. A gift that takes this status into account is a pretty good idea, provided that your dad isn't recently widowed or divorced. If he is, disregard and steer clear of this type of gift this year. However, if he has never been married or separated from/lost your mother a long while ago, a gift that might facilitate him finding/wooing that significant other some time down the line is the very definition of a gift that keeps on giving.

4. Your single father is YOUR DAD.

If you are the type of child that is thoughtful enough to actually celebrate this holiday and get your father a gift,
