Father's Day is a Special day for many Dads and its nice to acknowledge him no matter how big or small your budget is. Its a poor excuse when you don't give him anything and say. "I didn't know what to get you!" You don't need any money to do something Special for him!
Make his day special in any of the following ways.
- Make a book of vouchers that he can redeem at anytime. Be creative, 1 free car wash, Help with the gardening or any odd jobs, a neck massage, a picnic lunch, a ball game at the local park, Cutting the lawn etc., Write down anything that you know your dad will appreciate.
- Make him a book about his life that he can fill in. Using a computer type different title pages like, Birthday and add other details for him to fill in like where he was born, where he grew up, his parents and grandparents names and leave a space for him to put in a baby photo. Other pages could be titled, My first memory, My Schooldays, My first love, My hobbies, My family etc., You can either get the book bound at a office shop or you could make slots and put ribbons through it. Alternatively you could buy a large lined book or diary and write the titles on the pages.
- Get an adult to help you make his favourite snack and then put it in cellophane or bags and make a card to go with it.
- If he doesn't have a special place to put the tv remote controller and it often gets mislaid, then decorate a small box with wrapping paper or sticky contact paper to keep near the tv so other remotes for the video, dvd player and cd player can all be found together.
- Find out some of the jobs at home that your Dad dislikes doing and maybe you and your siblings or mother could help do them for one week so Dad gets some free time.
- Take him on a special picnic; it can be at the local park or even in your own backyard. Set up everything with picnic rug, plastic cups, napkins etc., and make him feel like the guest of honour. You could also do some fun party games. For prizes you could make vouchers that everyone can use, or buy some cheap candies.
- Promise to give Dad and maybe Mum a Special night where you promise to keep quiet and let them have some time alone at home. You could keep yourself busy in your own room by doing homework, playing quietly etc., you could make sure you had all your snack and drinks and make it a game to see how long you can stay in your room without having to come out. Or you could arrange with a friend to have a sleepover at their house to give Dad and Mum a break.
- Look on the Internet for other ideas and make Dad have a Special Day to remember.
