Poetry: Never stood a chance

by Michele Terboss

Created on: June 06, 2009

My heart beats just a bit quicker,
I press my hands to my chest.
I will my body to remain calm,
In my mind, there's enough of a mess.
I tell myself, it's okay if you're not there.
Yet, when you really don't appear, I cannot ignore the despair.
I wish you'd stop telling me you love me,
And making broken promises
I honestly, don't think I can face another night like this.
My lip-gloss on.
My hair done up nice.
You won't stand me up.
Not another night.
After all, we're supposed to be that lucky couple..
The kind others turn to when they're in trouble.
We'll smile warmly, and in turn say,
'Love and be loved, ignore the falls, you won't remember them in ten years'
We're the couple calming all the others fears.
But how do you ignore a fall like this?
I'm alone and waiting again.
You don't even make time for a kiss
I almost wish there was some other girl keeping you away,
Then I could relieve my own shoulders of the blame.
You tell me I did nothing wrong,
You're just feeling off.
How can you expect me to believe this..
When you still don't show up?
