How to make people think you're smart

perfect spelling.

For written communication, spell-check is very handy.

52. Avoid the phrase "you know".

Such a phrase implies that you are unsure or seek confirmation. The genius does not need to double-check.

51. Avoid the word "like".

The occasional use is very appropriate, such as "The dog acted like a cat", but it should not be used, like, every other, like, word.

50. Avoid current slang.

Fools use slang; you have a larger vocabulary than them.

49. Use medieval slang.

In fact, any slang not current to your time and location will increase the illusion that you are well-versed in various cultures.

48. Often say "Forsooth!".

This ties right in with all that I've said about being well-read and knowing history.

47. Cringe when you hear "Saxon math".

This is the system for teaching mathematics to many homeschoolers. Need I say more?

46. Don't say no, say "minime!" (pronounced MINI MAY)

This is Latin, the language of the learned.

45. Instead of "my head hurts" say "my cranium doth pain me".

Again, longer, older words are better.

44. Speak in riddles.

This goes along with others assuming themselves not intelligent enough if they fail to understand.

43. Speak in rhyme.

Alternatively, speak in rhythm, such as iambic pentameter, Shakespeare's gimic.

42. Speak in quotes.

This works best if the quotes come from great literary or historical sources.

41. Intimately know the history of Middle Earth.

This may make you sound like a nerd, but nerds are intelligent, right?

40. Intimately know the story of Star Wars.

Again, perhaps nerdy, but nerd level is easily mistaken for intelligence level.

39. Intimately know Star Trek.

Once more with the nerd fest, but the science fiction interest is extremely prevalent among the actual high-IQ groups.

38. Give compliments that could be insults.

Making people think is a standard sign of intelligence.

37. Give insults that could be compliments.

Confusing others is another such sign.

36. Never be without a small spiral notebook.

If asked to explain, you could say that the notes therein are for posterity, that the world will benefit from your genius long after you lie in the grave.

35. Display no over-affection.

The genius has no time for such things.

34. Always walk as if lost in thought.

This re-emphasizes earlier points concerning great concentration on a problem.

33. Make precise observations.

"I am 18 years, 3 months, 7 days, and
