Poetry: Being trapped

Caged

Write a story, any story

I need to feel the glory ..... of the word.

The pen races across the page

As she sits pretty in her cage.

The birds outside all sing their songs

But her song voice has long since gone.

-

The cat below, his pacing paws

Pad back and forth across the floor.

His neck arched aches but he craves more

To taste her flesh between his jaws.

-

Their owner, god-like, keeps her caged

Which only helps to fuel his rage

She though meanwhile averts her gaze

And dreams of long since forgotten days.

-

'til one day the cage door fails to close

And into freedom's arms she goes.

Flies straight towards those song bird calls

But hits the window pane and darkness falls.

-

He sees his chance and sidles up

Heart beating fast, joyous at his luck.

His dream served up on a plate

But emptiness is all he ate.

In my mind, as in my soul,
    A darkness lay I don't control.

A cage of man, which is not me.
    A want to fit society.
