Job search resources that will help get your resume seen

Today's job search can be overwhelming and confusing to many job seekers. Considerations range from where to post the resume, how to write a cover letter, how to network for new job opportunities, and how to brush up on interviewing skills. However, a number of very helpful online job search resources that will get your resume seen are available at no cost.

Get Your Resume Noticed via About.com, AOL, MSN Careers, and WorkBloom

About.com, famous for its wide-ranging knowledge database, features a wealth of in-depth job search resources in its Jobs and Careers channel. Candidates can learn about career planning, resume tips, cover letter writing, career profiles, and how to search for and apply to job openings. Job seekers can also learn about resume types and view sample resumes and cover letters. Other helpful sites include:

* AOL Find a Job's Advice and Resources section. AOL Find a Job features a blog, job search tools and resources, online education information, career planning, and resume tips on its Advice and Resources page.

* MSN Careers. MSN Careers offers in-depth job search information including resume services, featured articles, resume assistance, career tests, job alerts, resume posting, and quizzes. Job seekers can also take advantage of the handy salary calculators to get a good idea of what they should be paid.

* WorkBloom. WorkBloom is a great resource for career and job search advice. Topics include resume writing, cover letter writing, interview tips, networking advice, career articles, and resume samples.

Get Your Resume Noticed Through Online Job Search Engines

All job seekers should post a resume on several online job search engines including Dice, Monster, Yahoo! Hotjobs, CareerBuilder, and Thingamajob. Posting a resume via these job search websites allows the candidate to apply for jobs as well as provide an opportunity for employers and recruiters to contact the job seeker for an interview.

Online job search engine websites allow job seekers to not only search for and apply to job openings, they also provide helpful career planning and job search advice. Topics include career transition, resume writing, job training, interview tips, career profiles, and much more. Some job search websites including Monster feature forums where candidates can network and share information on effective job search strategies.

Get Your Resume Seen on Linkedin

Linkedin is a popular business networking website where companies, recruiters, and job seekers can connect. Users can post a resume, work history, objective, make and receive recommendations, and search for jobs. Linkedin features an additional helpful tool called Answers that allows candidates to ask career related questions and have them answered by experts. For example, the job seeker can inquire about whether to use a reverse chronological resume versus a functional resume. To use this feature, simply click Answers from the top of the Linkedin home page.

In these difficult economic times, getting your resume seen by employers is challenging for sure. But when job seekers take advantage of the wealth of online job search advice and career planning websites, post a resume on several online job search engines, and register with Linkedin job networking website, the chances for finding gainful employment improve.
