Poetry: Anger over the loss of a loved one

by Steven Bruce

Created on: June 04, 2009

Oh the weight of that December,
left me sullen like and ember.
Like The Raven always wishing,
wishing for an easy fishing.

That moment was our great divide,
and woe betide your life she cried.
More to this day I shake my blame.
my fault it cannot be I claim.

Never knowing, second guessing,
sitting here this window dressing.
A flush facade to hide my tears,
my fears, my bleak and wrinkled years.

The pain I found within those eyes,
has binded me to realize.
Even now I cannot have her,
for her love has legal transfer.

Never married, never wedded,
never with a woman bedded.
All alone I will forever,
love you like that one endeavor.

Trees are crackling, wind is whistling,
angst consumes me, hair is bristling.
A gloomy dusk brings darker night,
and burning wood gives glowing light.

As I sit here flames are dancing,
at my empty glass I'm glancing.
Inebriation I require,
one more drink before the fire.

Now I ponder, reminiscing,
hoping for another kissing.
Poking at another ember,
oh the weight of that December.
