The Metropolitan is a medium sized pub on Windsor Street, in the town of Uxbridge, Middlesex, in the West London Borough of Hillingdon. It attracts a wide variety of customers, at different times of the day and week, to eat and to drink, or both.
The Metropolitan is only a couple of hundred yards from Uxbridge High Street, close to Uxbridge Underground Station, so its central locale makes it very popular for bar lunches. Food is available in The Metropolitan from ten in the morning, seven days a week, breakfasts often available for less than two pounds. The menu then obviously changes to cater for the lunchtime and evening crowd. The food is fairly basic but good and the prices make eating at The Metropolitan a very attractive option, whatever the time of day.
There is a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks served in The Metropolitan. The bar prices are also extremely competitive compared to most other outlets within the town and special deals are frequently offered on such as certain ales and lagers. Wines and spirits are of course also available, as are hot beverages such as coffee or tea.
Perhaps the biggest drawback with The Metropolitan is that it does not have satellite television to cater for the sports enthusiast. This means that more often than not, the big match cannot be shown. Conversely, however, those looking to escape the sports coverage and its fanatical supporters can perhaps enjoy a quiet drink instead, away from the excitement of the events.
The Metropolitan can get extremely busy in the evenings, particularly at weekends. This is due perhaps to a combination of its attractive prices and convenient location. It is therefore advisable to be there pretty early in the evening if you wish to obtain a table or perhaps a convenient spot at the bar.
The Metropolitan does have an external smoking area at the rear of the premises. This also provides a second entrance and exit to the pub. The smoking area consists of a small paved terrace with several circular tables provided to stand at. There is, however, little in the way of shelter available in the event of inclement weather.
The Metropolitan is overall an extremely friendly and attractive pub to visit. The service both at the bar and in the provision of the food is very good and the atmosphere is genuinely welcoming and laid back. I would therefore recommend The Metropolitan to anyone either living in or visiting Uxbridge as an excellent pub to enjoy both a meal and a drink.
