Poetry: Teenagers

Aliens

Long hair,
scraggy clothes,
dirty dishes in a room where the floor has disappeared,
we love our little aliens,
although their voice just seems to groan.

They live amongst the dirt and grime,
the games and movies,
ahead of time,
crisps and drinks,
rubbish galor,
a planet that should be fumigated,
before each entry that's hesitated.

As we know one day will come,
when our little aliens will emerge,
from their depth of doom and gloom,
and those days will disappear.

Perfect hair,
trendy clothes,
completely scrubbed and preened,
the perfect little darlings,
we think our aliens should be.

But just as soon as we are used to this,
they will change themselves again,
and this is when we give up hope,
and wait for the phase to end,
a phase that lasts just seven years,
until their new decade begins,
and our darling little aliens will no longer be strange,
and that's when we remember,
we were like that once,
the perfect teenager.
