Poetry: Gossip

by Shelly Barclay

Created on: June 04, 2009   Last Updated: February 09, 2010

So many a closed mind with a mouth wide open

Many open minds with mouths afraid to speak

Every word out of a gossiping mouth is common

Single words of enlightened mouths can make you weep

Are mouths that are ignorant averse to silence

While brilliant mouths have no words to spare

Thoughtless words can become a nuisance

and thoughtful silence far too rare

Those of us with mouths agape

should take some time to listen

Lest we let errant words escape

for there may be something we are missing
