Top Ten Frugal Living Tips to Save You Money Now!
In uncertain times many people find themselves searching for creative ways to pinch pennies. In my time as a frugal living coach since 1999 I have learned a great deal about the art of living a frugal, but abundant, lifestyle. Frugality isn't about scrimping, but about creatively using your resources to the fullest. In the process you find that you free up money, reduce debt, and feel more in control of your destiny.
Here are my top ten useful tips that will save you money right away!
Don't eat packaged, overly processed convenience foods
It is a myth that packaged foods save you time and money. Freshly prepared foods are better for your budget and your health. When preparing foods cook meals that freeze well and make double or triple batches. That way when you are in a hurry and need a convenience meal in the future; you can simply pop it out of the freezer and warm it up. Some great examples are lasagna, casseroles, chili, soups, and cookie dough just to name a few. There are many resources for freezer cooking and once a month cooking recipes on the Internet.
Grow your own vegetables or buy local
Even those with small patios can grow their own vegetables. Tomatoes and peppers grow nicely in pots or buckets as do many other summer delectables. If you simply can't grow your own vegetables, buy from local markets during the growing season and can or freeze them.
Bell peppers can be chopped up and put in a freezer bag. Tomatoes can be easily blanched and frozen for use in sauces all year long. This not only saves you money, but allows you to have that garden fresh taste all year long. Buying local also reduces your carbon footprint and helps your community.
Use resources like Free Cycle
Freecyle is a great resource that is used to keep things out of landfills. Users can offer items for free and also request needed items. This is a great place to look for everything from books, furniture, coupons and more. Be sure to give as much as you receive it helps keep freecycle fun. You can find a local freecycle group in your area by visiting http://www.freecycle.org
Don't buy new if you don't have to
Take advantage of flea markets, rummage sales, and yard sales during the spring and summer months. You can often find needed items like furniture, accessories, clothes, shoes, linens, toys, and more at a fraction of the cost of buying them new. If you are creative pick up an old piece and
