"Turn Right And Go Straight..."
When contemplating any goal in life, there needs to be a plan as to how one can best achieve success. Some approaches are clear cut. Let's say a person wants to set and pursue a career goal. If they want to be a doctor, then it's off to medical school. If a lawyer, then law school is required. If a writer, then call a psychiatrist...(kidding, kind of)!
With some, however, the goal is one of a more personal nature, perhaps something to do with self-improvement. If weight loss is the desire, a diet/exercise program may be the way to go. Quitting smoking? Try nicotine patches, gum, or a doctor, or some combination of these. There are as many different goals out there as there are people to pursue them!
There does come a time in the lives of many people when they seem to strive for an even deeper, "meaning to life" endeavor. This is another topic which appears to offer so many different options in an attempt to attract everyone and anyone looking! Sadly, in cases of spiritual or religious goals, a large number of people have concocted and promoted doctrine which many times has little or nothing to do with finding the truth.
I don't recall where I first heard the words in the title of this article...at church or a talk radio show! Of course they were meant to be humorous, but the "pun" just happens to be true for those who are concerned with things spiritual. If the goal is to seek a deeper, more intrinsic satisfaction in this life we live, let's take a second and explore the meaning of these words.
The words "Turning right and head straight' simply refer to taking the right paths and staying straight the course. In other words, for many turning to the Lord and heading directly toward Him each day is the key to finding valuable personal insight. To begin with, people must identify a set of values with which they are comfortable and can live by. For many, the rudiments of general human interaction found in the Holy Bible suffice nicely. These basic principles of how to live with each other have been hailed as the best ever written, by both believers and non-believers. Even if someone practiced only the basic behavioral instruction offered in the bible, they may very well find a happier and more rewarding lifestyle for themselves.
However, there is much more which God's word has to offer; and the more a person accepts from scripture, the more he stands to gain! Death is a physical experience which no human escapes. But to be able to find eternal life is the spiritual goal which should interest many, if not all of us. How to obtain that never ending life of pure bliss is available to all who would seek after it through the Holy Bible!
A person knows they are well on their way to securing such a life when he places the precepts of God's will in charge of his heart and mind. Christianity changes from simply being "a lifestyle" to becoming "a way of life!" It requires no more faith than that which is called for to embrace either "evolution" or "the Big Bang" theroies. Better yet, The Lord offers His children an imperishable reward in the life hereafter. Just knowing what awaits the Christian can lead to a happier, more fulfilling life in this world...
No, Christians are not perfect. No, the minute one converts to Christianity their problems don't just "up and disappear." However, the mindset of a believer leaves us well prepared for the trials of this life, while looking forward to the promise of life in heaven. When seeking out either a personal or spiritual goal in this world, many people can find BOTH in the comfort and strength of our Creator while following our Lord Christ Jesus right into heaven...just "turn right and head straight!"
