PROLOGUE
Malcolm sighed as he looked at the stack of bills before him They were about $300 short and he had no idea how or where they would get the additional money without touching their precious savings. The last time he checked they had just about $5,000.
Bright morning sunlight filled the kitchen, it was in direct contrast to the somber mood of the couple sitting at the round glass table. They had fed their two young children and sent them off to the local middle school.
Sarah sat quietly as she watched malcom. She wondered whether he would think less of her w hen she told him what she had done. They had cut back on just about everything. Just two weeks ago they sold her car. It seemed they lived for coupons. Sarah dished up a heaping bowl of Oatmeal and blueberries and sat it before him. "This is much better for you love; just think what all that bacon and eggs would do to your arteries. Wait, you can have that coffee. I'll have to think about the tumble."
As they sat eating in silence, both thought back on their lives just six months past.
