Starting a small business does not always require a big investment. Therefore, a loan is not necessary. Any small business that you can start from home or do on the days you don't work your regular job really doesn't require a loan. Many service type businesses start this way. Here is a list of services that you can turn into a small business without a loan. Hairdressing, cleaning homes, painting, snow removal, tutoring and working on cars are all services that can be done part-time and requires very little capital to start.
Small businesses that sell items that are handmade or homemade can start selling their products right out of their homes. Painting portraits, Certified Public Accountant and plumbing are some more examples. All you really need is certification if it is required and the experience and knowledge to be good at what you do. Your next step is getting clients.
Many small businesses started as freelancers who were doing what they love for money. But they also worked another job until their business grew. This is the smart way of starting a business. They are gaining experience in the field and making extra money at the same time.
All small businesses have starting requirements. This is something you need to research. You may be required to be bonded or carry insurance. Do you need a license or certificate to perform this type of service. Once you know what is required, you will have an idea of the cost. Getting certified or a license will probably be your largest expense. If you need insurance, that is another expense. But as with any insurance you can make monthly payments. You just need to shop for the best policy and price.
Does your small business require expensive equipment? If so, you can look into used equipment or rentals. When purchasing supplies or products, only purchase what you need. Once you have done a few jobs you will have more money to purchase the things you need. This all depends on what type of a business you are starting.
If you need an office. Set up an area in your home that will be away from any distractions. This could be the den or your basement. Having an office will only require a desk, comfortable chair, file cabinet, typewriter and phone. Any other equipment or supplies like a computer or cell phone can be purchased later. If you need to use a computer for advertising, email marketing or research go to the library until you can
