How to start a small business with no loan

Starting a small business does not always require a big investment. Therefore, a loan is not necessary. Any small business that does not require a store front can be started at home. Many service type businesses start this way. If you can provide a service or product at a low cost, you don't need a loan.

Many small businesses come from freelancers who have been doing what they love for money. But they work another job until their business grows. This is the smart way of starting a business. They are gaining experience in the field and making extra money.

All small businesses have starting requirements. This is something you need to research. You may be required to be bonded or carry insurance. Is there licensing or certification requirements? Once you know what is required, you will have an idea of the cost. The biggest expense will probably be insurance. But as with any insurance you can make monthly payments. You just need to shop for the best policy and price.

Does your small business require expensive equipment? If so, you can look into used equipment or rentals. When purchasing supplies or products, only buy what you need. Once you have done a few jobs you will have more money to purchase the things you need. This all depends on what type of a business you are starting.

If you need an office. Set up an area in your home that will be away from any distractions. This could be the den or your basement. An office requires a desk, comfortable chair, file cabinet, typewriter and phone. Any other equipment or supplies like computers can be purchased later. If you need to use a computer for advertising, email marketing or research go to the library until you can afford one. You can check out used office equipment or make purchases that allow monthly payments.

Advertising is costly but there are ways around this. Hopefully you have chosen an attracting business name. A name that stands out above your competition. Decide on a slogan. A phrase that describes your business. An example could be "we are masters in our field". Your next step is designing business cards. My advice is to go on line to Vista print. You only pay for shipping and the business cards are free. Now you have a business card to give to customers and people that may be interested in your new business.

The next step in advertising is getting a localized listing. You can go on line to Yahoo or Google and get a free localized listing. There are also websites that offer free advertising for your business. Starting a sales campaign is a great idea for any new business. Place ads for discounts for new customers or first time customers. The goal here is to attract customers and get your name out there.

One advantage of starting a business is you may not need employees right away. So, this means less overhead and more money for your business. Plan ahead. Search job websites that will allow you to screen applicants or find people looking for jobs in your type of field. This will help when your in need of some good employees. Open a checking account at your bank that will only be used for business purposes. This will help you save money to purchase additional items that you may need for your business.
