There's a total of three ways to battle in runescape, melee, magic (also known as mage), and ranged as in bows and arrows.The cheapest is melee because you have nothing to buy but the weapons and amour. I'm going to tell you how to get a high level in melee and still be effective in your stats.

First, you have to make a runescape account of course. You can do that by going to

runescape.com, and then clicking on the sign up button on the home page. Runescape does not take any personal information rather then some security questions to recover your account if you forget you password or if you have your account get hacked.

Second, you have to beat the island that they put you on to teach you the basics of runescape. That's self-explanatory because they have perfect directions for you to complete it in about 10-20 minutes. After you are finished with that your going to have to start the melee training.

Here is what you should be training on and at what level you should be training on them. When you have your attack, strength, and defense balanced at level 1 you should go get a weapon and shield from the melee tutor and then go train on dummies. After you get the skills balanced to about 5-7 on each you should go and train on cows. At this point you have the chance to make some money by collecting cowhides from the cows you kill. Then when you get your skill balanced to about 15 each you should go and train on guards at alkard palace. There about combat level 9 or so and you can get cheap food for 1gp each (kebab), if the food is needed. When your melee stats are balanced at about 30 you should buy some amour if you haven't bought any already because this is the point where you can use mithril amour that helps your defense by a large amount when your fighting low level creatures. You should always and I repeat always, keep the weapon that you have in track of your attack level. For example, at level 20 attack you should have a steel weapon and at level 30 attack you should have a adamant weapon and so on. After you have bought your weapon and amour you should head for the stronghold of security and train on the flesh crawlers that are on floor 2. There max hit is only 1 and they give about 100 experience each kill. You should train on those until your stats are balanced at level 60-70. By the way when your training on flesh crawlers you can multi-task because they auto attack you for a period of time. Anyways, after your skills are balanced from 60-70 you should go down another floor to the level 50 spiders. They auto attack and for free to play players you should train on these until all the melee stats are 99.
