Guide to adult education

Education is where you find it and never is this as true as you grow older. All you need is an imagination and a sense of adventure and determination never to become bored. I am aware, of course, that this topic address the conventional means of ongoing education for those out of school who have a need to refresh or bring up to date their past education and that is good. But when you think about tit, education is found in unlikely places and is not something we turn on or off.

As I see it, education sets out the principles, the guidelines, the rules, the facts, and after that you are on your own. You can either build on these by being receptive to learning or you can shut your mind down and let nothing contrary, provocative, or slightly off course enter. Those of us who are writers and who see the world as mostly undiscovered, as it us by us, are awake to the possibilities within us.

A word of caution here: This quality in the young is often troublesome and hard to manage and needs careful understanding and guidance by parents and teachers; in older folks who have had enough past experiences with careless wandering into forbidden paths and who have learned how to guide their feet into paths of righteousness for His name's sake see all differences as potentials for learning.

As an example, the fact that I am writing on this subject for Helium is indirectly related to that thought. This is Wednesday, the day I sometimes devote to other things than writing, even when online. This morning I decided to browse and check out other Helium channel topics other than my usual health care, gardening, environmental, inspirational concerns etc., and being somewhat methodical in my ramblings, started with Arts and Humanities. Under that gigantic listing the first one is dance.

Well I can't dance and I know little about it. I appreciate it and I am an excellent observer of others' performances. And I admit that one of my secret desires in life is to get out there on the dance floor and dance and know what I am doing. Oh I can get out there and pretend and that manages to get me through social occasions when only a little shuffling is required, but believe me, I can't dance. I was born that way. I chalk it up to prematurely and having missed out on a thorough finishing touch at the factory before being turned out to a whole new world.
