Remember how it used to be; entrepreneurship was supposedly a man's game? Traditionally, franchise operations that allow business owners to buy into an established business model, were geared towards men. But no longer! Women have been increasingly starting up their own businesses out of desire or necessity, and the franchise industry has responded. Men and women are both attracted to the financial freedom, flexibility and chance to use their talents by running their own businesses. But what else are women looking for when considering the franchise route?
Women still face forms of gender discrimination in many industries, finding themselves stuck in the 'pink collar ghettoes' and unable to advance. Additionally, the majority of household duties are carried out by women. Franchising provides many benefits to entrepreneurial women. Women can become their own boss regardless of the number of years of experience or levels of education. Many are excited by the chance to use their talents in a productive and challenging way.
Female-oriented franchises allow women to work out of the home, making it easier to balance the demands of managing a family. For women who prefer to keep work and home separate there are many options as well. Many franchises require low cash investments or remove the obstacles that prevented women from gaining financing. In addition to the traditional franchises that appeal to women such as child-care, senior's care and craft businesses, there are new exciting opportunities for every woman who has ever dreamed of being her own boss. The following examples indicate how little cash is needed to get started.
1. Roni Deutch Tax Center ($15,000). With no experience necessary and year round earning opportunities, this franchise is great women seeking an outlet to use their business skills. Tax experts continue to be in high demand, and all training is provided.
2. Merle Norman Cosmetics Franchise ($25,000). Since 1931 this cosmetics franchise has been empowering women. There are no franchise or royalty fees, and financing options are designed to attract women to entrepreneurship.
