To avoid getting caught in a terrorist attack just fly as there is a minuscule chance of being involved. Fly with a major airline between major airports and the chances become even slimmer. The better airports have better security, better xray machines and better detection for anything and anyone who may get involved in a hijack. If you are one of the extreme minority that does get involved here are some tips;
/Should you get caught up try and remain calm and keep those around you calm as most hijacks don't last too long anymore. The days of week after week hijacks are nearly gone. The chances are that patience will be enough to survive.
/Listen to what the hijackers say and try and do what they say. As the hijack is likely to be short its not worth antagonising anyone. if they ask you to move to the front then do so, always obey but nothing more.
/Keep aware of whats going on around you outside the plane where possible. If a local force decides to intervene in the hijack be ready to get your head down and stay down if something should happen. Its likely there may be shooting so stay down out of the firing line.
/keep alert to who looks like the leader and who looks like the follower with the hijackers, try and appear friendly to all but be awareof the leader who may be harder to please. This is also important after the event in case you have to identify people for a police investigation and a court invite . If they are masked listen for accents and make a mental note of their appearance IE height, weight etc
/Try and be totally average among the people on board the plane. Don't react first or last to any orders, don't ignore but don'tjump to react too quickly. Just sit still and don't talk in case the hijackers are after certain people from a certain area, talking will reveal an accent they may be looking for.
/Be aware of all escape routes on the plane in case you have a chance to use them. This is crucial in case of any emergencies so is always worth studying. To know where escape routes are can be very important in any emergency, or even just when trying to get off when you have landed at your destination.
/As well as keeping yourself calm and those related to you calm think of strangers around you. If everyone remains calm then their is more chance of the period ending safely. If you want to be anonymous then those around you need to be kept quiet as well to keep your part of the plane quiet and unobtrusive.
