Choosing an appropriate car seat is very important to keep your child safe and secure while traveling. There are many choices out there to review before you decide which will be the safest and most convenient for your child. Keep in mind that your child's safety is on the line with this purchase. Now you need to do your research before just going to the store to buy a seat. You cannot go into the store looking for the cheapest or cutest car seat you can find. You have to go in knowing which seat will be the safest, whether any have been recalled lately, what the requirements are, as well as your child's height and weight at the time of purchase. There are three main types to choose from: carriers, rear facing and booster seats.
If this is your first purchase and your child is an infant, remember that your child will have to face the rear of the car for the first year of their life. There are many different brands out there to choose from, that can be your personal preference. Just make sure that when you make this purchase you remember to go by weight requirements, as well as all other safety requirements.
You may choose to purchase a carrier, in which you can buy in a combo with the stroller. The carrier will only hold up to 32 lbs and 32 inches. Depending upon how fast your child grows or how big your child was when they are born, some may grow out of this car seat before their first birthday. This would be your first choice for convenience though, making it easy to get the child in and out of the vehicle. You would only have to buckle the base into the car, so that when you want to take your child out you just pull the carrier out as well, leaving the child secure inside the carrier and undisturbed.
You may also decide to go ahead and purchase a convertible car seat. One in which you can use from the time your child is born til he is ready for a booster seat. Convertible car seats can hold from five pounds up to sixty five pounds once your child is able to face the front. These seats are great if you only want to make one purchase before your child becomes a toddler. Though not as convenient as the carrier, as you have to remove your child each and every time you take them out of the car; these car seats are just as safe and a great investment knowing that once your child outgrows his carrier you won't have to buy an additional car seat.
The last seat you will want to purchase will be a booster seat. There are many different varieties to choose from; some with backs, some without. The thing you will have to look for here is the weight requirements. Make sure that your child meets the height and weight requirements before letting them use one. You will also want to keep in mind that most state laws require that your child stays in a booster seat until they weigh eighty pounds or are eight years old.
Therefore you have to choose which seat they will be able to use this whole time. It may be best to purchase a seat that has the back attached to it, as this is more convenient and safer for a toddler. Though once they are older they will grow out of these faster. Your best choice would be to find a seat that has the back on, but can be taken off once the child has outgrown that part of it. Just remember to do your research to know which seat is going to be the safest for your child; their life depends upon the choices that you make as their parent. Choose wisely.
