What you need to know about breastfeeding

There seem to be two sides that moms take on breastfeeding. You have some who come from an era where formula was new and the thing that you fed your baby with and others who stand by them because they are uncomfortable with women breastfeeding in public. Then you have a bunch of people who are going back to the "breast is best" mentality. All in all, there are a lot of things to know about breastfeeding and it should always be known that it is a choice that you can make as a mom.

Breast is Best.

For most babies breast milk is the best option. It provides antibodies from mom and nutrition that is created for the baby (after all, that is its only purpose and the reason that breast milk is made in the body). However, that doesn't mean that it is the only option out there. There are many reasons that a person might choose to bottle feed over breastfeeding and in the end it has to be a decision about what is best for the baby, the mom, and the family as a whole. You might find that breastfeeding isn't good for you because of a number of reasons or isn't the best option for your family. Let it be known that even if people tell you other wise, it is okay to bottle feed your baby. On the other hand, if you are one where breastfeeding is the best choice then it should be known that this too is okay, even if others have a problem with it.

Breastfeeding Has to Be Learned.

Many will tell you about how breastfeeding is natural and instinctive. While that may be true on some level, it doesn't seem to work out well as a whole. Breastfeeding is new for many moms and definitely new for the baby. It is something that the two of them have to learn to work through. Then there are moms who breastfed and find that their second child is different from their first (this happens a lot) and that makes it hard for them to re-learn to breastfeed. When starting out or dealing with the frustrations of breastfeeding, it should be known that breastfeeding may be natural and instinctive, but it still has to be learned! This learning process takes some time, but can be done in a few weeks.

Breastfeeding Can Be Frustrating.

There are a large number of moms out there who love to breastfeed their babies. That is wonderful, but for the rest of us it can leave us feeling frustrated, inadequate, and just plain worried. It isn't that we are doing something wrong. Instead it is that breastfeeding can often be frustrating. It is something that takes up a lot of time, can be uncomfortable and even
