When you hear the word pit bull, you might automatically think of the dog fights that happen everyday all over the world with these animals. These fights are for personal gain; money. Selfish man has used animals for their own good for thousands of years. Does that mean there is something wrong with the animal? No, it's how the animal is trained.

A pit bull doesn't need to be an evil thing, as long as it's not trained to kill. Yes they can be a violent dog, but can't a violent child be raised to be non-violent if taught all over again? The pit bull was never made to kill and make money for people and to gamble. Now, what about the people who use them as protection of their homes? Well, haven't they also trained the pit bull to be violent?

An animal who would already have violent tendencies who is trained violent or put in the position to be violent will be what? Violent. During the dark ages, some pit bulls served an important purpose in England by killing vermin that might otherwise ruin crops, damage property, or spread disease such as the black plague.

Just to prove that the pit bulls can be trained to be well natured, Helen Keller, Thomas Edison, and Mark Twain all had pit bulls who lived with them. In the show "Little Rascals", they used a pit bull as "Petey". If they could control a pit bull on a television show that stars children, they can surely be tamed. According to the American Canine Temperament Testing Association, 82.5%of the American Pitt Bull Terriers that took the temperament test passed. Unfortunately, most of the populations of animal shelters consist of Pit Bulls because they had not been trained correctly.

This is sad because if someone tries to adapt a poorly trained, abused pit bull, because of it's lack of good training, it would be very hard for the new owners to handle them. However, there are solutions; 'www.pitbulllovers.com' offers a book called "The Pit Bull Training Handbook" plus you can download lots of free information on how to train them correctly after they have been mishandled. Also, "http://www.workingpitbull.com/training.htm".

The things to consider are the pit bull's food, treats, going outside, walks, and most of all, LOVE AND ATTENTION! They need to be shown that there is a better life than the one's they are living. So if you do decide to adopt a previously abused or misused pit bull, take extra precautions, especially if you have small children (which is not recommended) and show these dogs, and the world, there is hope for these animals to be loved!
