YES! You are engaged! But wait...where's the ring?
That is the response on most newly engaged women's faces when their soon to be husband pops the question. Most people are torn between if it is official with or without the ring. I think that you can be engaged without a ring without a shadow of a doubt. However, most people would have to disagree because for them no ring means no love. How can that be? I think that we look so deep into the symbolism of rings and what they are supposed to mean. They are supposed to be a symbol of their love right? They are supposed to be the best looking and the shiniest rocks that you have ever seen right? They are supposed to be the most expensive right? They are supposed to make all your friends jealous right?
In today's society's more people are putting those time old stigmas behind them and looking into the future with fresh eyes. Now it is not about what you have on your finger rather than what the person you have on your arm means to you. So he has taken you to your favorite eatery and you both are having a wonderful time. You are having the time of your life and he is a modest kind of guy. He is by far anything but rich and he does provide for you very well. He bends on his knee takes your hand and asks you to be his wife. Now any other woman would be looking around for a ring, but you are much different and that is why he has fallen head over heels for you. He knows that you are the kind of woman who will not take his short comings against him and not think him a fool for not having that rock you have been eyeing. Finding the right guy who wants to settle down and spend his life with you is not an easy task. There are many women who never find true love and who end up alone. There are many women who marry man after man hoping he is the right one. These women were so taken by the flashy gold or platinum. They are the few that were taken by the stacks of money that the men threw in front of them as they dined. These women are happy with their rocks but the rocks and the glamour did not make them happy.
If you want to be happy get past the ring and look into the person who is asking you. Look at his virtues and what he has to offer. Is he the kind of guy you can settle down with? Does he look at you like you look at him with compassion and sensitivity? When he looks at you, does he see how beautiful you are in spirit? Does he give you everything you need and then some? If he does, then rings can come and go. Rings can be lost and they can be stolen. They can be tarnished and they can be burned. However, if you can find just one guy who is everything you wanted and then some, then you have much more than any ring can symbolize!
