Ideas for reducing unemployment

by bigerne

Unemployment is becoming a huge problem here in America. Due to the instability in the economy, people are staying unemployed for longer periods of time. The government has a system setup for these people to reach prospective employers. They are known by names such as One-Stop Career service and Work force development. Should these government sponsored agencies be giving more non typical employment help besides the workshops and lists of potential employers? I think so, there are plenty of other things the average person can do to further his or her livelihood.

These suggestions are usually not the first options that people would consider when looking for work but, they can be the most rewarding. Starting with at home work/self employment, government employment in your current field, non-profit opportunities and ending with armed forces. I hope to give everyone some useful brain food for solving your particular employment problem, unlike One-Stop.

Working at home can be a daunting challenge. Before you skip this paragraph, please consider this: Self employment is quickly becoming easier and cheaper than ever to get into. It is great because you don't need to worry about extreme amounts of overhead. Companies are going to be looking to off load a lot of tasks that could be done outside of a regular office building. Things like medical billing, screening services, telephone services and language translation services. These services can be done in the comfort of your own home; all you need is a telephone and computer in most cases. In addition to that you can find a branded home based business like Freelife or train to open up a small office like Edward Jones does.

Products could also be sold from home; places like DSDI provide access to remote inventory in which you can drop ship to your consumers directly from their warehouses. If you wanted control over your products you could invest in wholesale lots of widgets from places like eBay wholesale auctions. Then, you could price and sell them on the Internet and other places as you wish.

Now before going off and trying all this yourselves, you need to consider what skills you lack. Enter the One-Stop career service. They could help individuals understand what skills they need and legal requirements to meet, if they had the current unemployment services offered, updated. Working at home is not easy but with the help of current government agencies already in place, it could get a lot better.
