What happen after 28 weeks? I anticipated the answer when I first saw the title of this movie: 28 weeks later. And why 28 weeks? Not mentioned.
A group of people is preparing their lunch in a cottage in London. It seems like they are going to have their dinner instead of lunch because it is dark inside the cottage. Just when they are chatting, a kid bangs the front door. Some are reluctant to let the kid in. Eventually, dozens of infected people, which come after the kid, break into the cottage and almost kill everyone. Don escapes.
28 weeks later, US Army intervenes and put London under quarantine. As they clean the infected areas, they also begin populating the safe areas in the city. Don's children, Tammy and Andy return to London to live with him. They defy Don's order and return to their old home to retrieve some personal belongings. Surprisingly, they find their mother, Alice, alive in the house.
Alice is infected but somehow immune to the virus. She is put under quarantine and the scientists hope that they could create a cure from Alice. Knowing that Alice is still alive, Don tries his way to see Alice. However, he is infected by Alice.
The army is put under alert and precede their protocol.
Step 1: Killed the Infected
Step 2: Containment
Step 3: Extermination
Tammy and Andy are helped by a small group of army who believes they hold the genes that could cure the virus. They manage to escape the extermination of the city in a helicopter. However, they crash in the end.
Effects
The effects of the infected killing and eating people are good. And the infected looks vicious and scary.
The sound effects do not add tension into the movie. It just does not work for me. Sometimes, I feel like watching cartoon based on the sound effects integrated.
Storyline
The beginning of the film starts quietly and soon, people are screaming and running for their life. I particularly like the part when a small group of army tries to bring Tammy and Andy to safety. I read a comment in IMDB which I find that it is quite true about 28 Weeks Later: When there's no violence, there's fear and tension.
Verdict
Overall, it is not a bad movie. But it is not one of the best either. Some of the scenes are not well-plotted. For instance, Tammy and Andy are able to run away from a highly secured area, guarded by dozens of US Army who check on anyone going in and out of the area. However, because Tammy and Andy manage to go into the infected area undetected, their journey to their old home brings an excitement.
Well, it is definitely not boring after watching the whole movie.
