The Sacramento Zoo in Land Park area of California's lovely capital city, has a great variety of animals, a nice educational and fun environment, perfect for a fun family outing. The location is ideal, set in a lush and lively William Land Park. It makes for the perfect picnic place too.
The zoo is a little small and it's no San Diego or Bronx zoo, but it's still a fun place to go. Kids will love the Conservation Carousel and the train that makes a round trip around the whole zoo. Kids and grown ups alike will marvel at the animals, most importantly. The zoo has hundreds of different animals, from big cats to exotic birds to lizards and snakes, from many different part so fthe world such as Honduras, West Africa, and much more. The animals are very well cared for, and you can tell that they are happy. The zoo is very clean and sanitary, so worrying about getting dirty does not ruin your day of lesure.
The Reptile House is great, walk throught the darkened hallways to observe exotic lixards, snakes, frogs, and more behind the glass. The interesting facts posted at each exhibit are great, they really teach you something you didn't know before.
The primate exhibit is cool too, I love watching them play around with each other and swinging around in their cages. Other fun animals are the Otters that float around in the manmade lake, and the giant anteater that digs around for its next meal . The giraffes are amazing too, and they are getting a new home! The zoo is building a new enclosure for them that will be ready soon.
The zoo is open year round, so anytime is a good time to visit. The prices are reasonable, and the gift shop has some cool knick knacks that make for nice gifts and support the zoo. Sometimes the zoo has special events that make the zoo outing even more enjoyable for everyone. An example is the Ice Cream Safair, which is in the summer. The zoo also has lots of educational events for the kids, teaching them about animals, and the importants of taking care of the earth, a lesson that I feel is very important to teach the next generation.
The Zoo is a real Sacramento gem with a rich history and great reputation. Come and support this local institution! I hope this place will be around for a very long time, so that our kids and our kids' kids will be able to come and enjoy the same animal wonders that people have since the zoo's founding.
