Why men don't wear skirts? Excuse me! I have seen men in skirts. The Scots love their little check, quilt style skirts. It is their proud heritage. A couple of years ago I was quite amused, and astonished to see at London Heathrow airport on my way to Belfast , the Scottish Rugby team arriving in England wearing T-shirts and quilted, Scottish skirts. This was really ''music to my eyes'', and I could not stop staring. Sure, it is traditional for Scottish men to wear skirts, and they are very proud of their heritage, that they also wear the skirt to weddings, and funerals. A Scotsman once told me that, sometimes in Glasgow, drunks can be seen with a T-shirt and kilt . This goes with a bottle of brandy or whisky in one hand.
Coming back to the topic. Why men do not wear skirts. Men do not wear skirts because skirts are very feminine. Men want to create a macho image about themselves, and they rely heavily on image. Perception also has a huge part to play in relation as to why men do not wear skirts. Many men feel very victimised into thinking that people are going to stare at them if they are seen sporting a skirt. Men want the world to see them as brave and courageous, and nothing must come between them and fashion. It is just not acceptable in the modern world to see a man in a skirt, although some cultures welcome it with open arms. Well, of course it is part of their culture. Indian and Arabic men wear traditional clothes that resemble skirts, but there is also a pants that covers the long shirt/skirt like structure. The modern man, wears a suit and pants set to work. He socialises in shorts and jeans, and performs recreational activities in a pair of three quarter pants or shorts. This is quite acceptable to modern man, and no one will point a finger at him for dressing like a man.
There is really no right or wrong. Men should feel free to wear skirts if they choose to. Wearing a skirt for far too long has been seen as a feminine choice of clothing. Maybe in the next century or a couple of decades later, men will finally succumb as the weaker sex, and wearing a skirt shall be deemed acceptable. Men survive in the world by the old adage, ''eat or be eaten''. This means that men need to be taken seriously, and if they are seen sporting a skirt no one will take them seriously, and men are very competitive. Men are out to win, in the rat race, and wearing skirts will only alter this perception.
