Most women spend at least 50% of their time at home in the kitchen so it's no wonder that at the top of the list for many of them is a dream kitchen. The kitchen is probably the most used room in the home. I spent many years in the kitchen cabinetry business designing dream kitchens. Here are a few tips to help make sure your kitchen is truly your dream kitchen.
The Size-
First you need to evaluate what size you are working with. Is your kitchen big enough for your needs or do you need more space? If so, is there space available either by adding on or knocking out some walls?
Cabinets-
There are many different styles of cabinets out there from European style to Face Frame. Each company has their unique styles and differences. There are also different types of cabinets from modular to custom. Modular cabinets are pre-built to specific sizes and usually come in certain woods. Most interior designers work independently so this would be an additional cost you would need to consider. There are also many good designers that work for cabinet companies. Depending on where you live they may offer free designs when you purchase your cabinets through them. When you are working with a designer be open to their ideas and suggestions. Most of them have been in the business for a long time and have a lot of good ideas.
Style-
Style can play a major part in the design of your kitchen. There are many styles to choose from including Contemporary, European, Country, Southern, Cape Cod and more. Before you go into a designer go through some magazines and tear out some pages of kitchens you like. This will help your designer get a clear picture of the style you like. Style will also play a large part in the colors you choose for your kitchen. Be sure to think about the rest of your home and make sure the new style will flow nicely with it. The last thing you want is for the rest of
