There is a place I love to sit,
When the summer rain falls gently down;
Its from my porch I like to enjoy it;
Where I can hear and see it touch the ground.
The pure freshness of a summer shower,
Brings fragrance to the once hot, still air,
And gives newness of life to every flower,
As it irrigates the dry ground everywhere.
Rivulets of water across my lawn play,
Zigging and zagging and merging together,
Becoming a puddle on the low walkway,
In the middle of which floats a blue jay feather.
The sound of rain against clay flower pots,
Of water swooshing down the gutter drain,
Dripping off the roof which leaks in spots
Makes a melodious symphony performed by the rain.
People without porches with rockers or swings,
Miss out on the pleasures of those summer showers;
To sit on the porch and rock while the rain sings
Its special lullaby; I could listen for hours.
