Assessing the theories of human rights

Your freedom should not be compromised by anyone.

Humans are born free and should have the right to continue to live freely and develop their full potential. Unfortunately for the world there are certain individuals who through their own inadequacy feel they have the right as the leader of some army group to take those rights away at the point of a gun or through a reign of terror. These poor people who would do anything to help their family ot friends, suddenly find that fear of unknown irrational laws enforced by soldiers controls their every day movements. I have heard shocking reports come out of Sudan where a peaceful community has woken to find they are being attacked by government soldiers who leave no sign of life after an hour or so of sheer terror and death. Wiped out for one megalomaniac's hold on false power. Oh, it makes one feel we have to go back to the beginning of it all to grow healthy human rights in fertile soil again and bring ultimate peace to earth. So let's do that.

In the beginning there was wonder and beauty on a grand scale as the cosmos blossomed with colorful, new innocent life and each living organism, star, planet or galaxy grew in an honest way to it's present day beauty as seen through the Hubble telescope. There grew on earth a human body, both male and female, and they had children. The children were told their rights as they grew to adulthood and then like all raised young were left to their own devices. They could either respect other humans, or march on through life with no conscience at all and trample others underfoot in their egotistical journey towards eventually their own downfall. What you learn from your parents is important and it reminds me of Saddam Hussein's two sons who followed in their father's footsteps showing total disregard for any form of basic common human rights. Where are they now?

The theories of human rights could read like this. First and foremost, every human has a right to free thought. Secondly, they have a right to defend this liberty if it is challenged . There is much litigation round these days. Thirdly, the ability to discover and contribute to the world with inventive ideas in medicine and science and writing should be allowed and not suppressed as under former communist Russia. Fourthly, it is every human being's right to have food and live and this should be achievable with some unselfish thought round the world. Also it is a basic right to have free education with all the taxes governments take and spend on war and space exploration. There should be enough hospitals to treat everybody on earth at any time to save lives with all the medical knowledge we have at our disposal these days. Why these basic rights have not been addressed is because we have no common consensus to address all nations on a general set of human rights charters. The United Nations goes in to mop up the results of war but has not come up with a unified way of protecting people's rights to life first. Lastly, humans should have a right to follow any belief system they want in peace without it being used as an excuse to go to war.

Follow the Ten Commandments if you want a basic start on this journey of addressing human rights through out the world. After that pray that all the world will heal from former human rights abuse and a new generation of peace warriors can change the murky residue of disrespect for human life shown by so many ignorant ego maniacal despots of the past. The past is the past. Now is the time to start the healing process.

Could Thoreau's idea of a simplistic life work in today's society?
