Legalization of prostitution

A man once proffered that "kinky" is when you use a feather, while "perverse" is when you use a live chicken. Be that as it may, within the arena of human sexual behavior we can say only one thing with absolute certainty: nothing is beyond belief. When it comes to human sexuality, if it can be done, it will be done - at times for a price. The reality is that every one of us has our sexual nuances. We all find specific things quite arousing or quite disgusting. For some, the feather does it. For others, unfortunately, only the chicken will do.

With all of our sexual subtleties in mind, however, we should draw only one limitation when it comes to our collective sexuality. We must never allow the victimization of children, animals, or non-consenting adults when it comes to our private gratification. Beyond that, nobody on this planet retains the authority to tell another human being what is proper sexual behavior between consenting adults. (And while outdoor sex certainly arouses a great many people on our planet, we should still punish those who perform sex in non-private settings because such public sex acts present potential exposure to children.)

Beyond those restrictions, however, we must tolerate all of humanity's sexual shades. For example, an unwashed man who enjoys sex on a stack of new radial tires after slathering himself with mint jelly is no more perverse than a woman who prefers sex on flannel sheets after showering and dusting herself with fragrant powder. (And we can expand that comparison out to the 10 millionth degree if we so choose. Anything goes, and none of us reigns as the authority.)

Yes, with human sexuality just about anything goes. When it comes to prostitution, however, contemporary moralists righteously seize authority by arguing that prostitution creates victims, therefore, prostitution qualifies as an immoral act. Their argument, however, does not reflect the reality of the basic exchange of sex for money. In its purest form, the act of one person paying another person for the pleasure of sex creates no more victims than the act of one person paying another for the pleasure of an ice cream cone.

With that reality in mind, modern day moralists must attach peripheral crime to the basic act of prostitution in order to fashion victims. Opponents of legalized prostitution have to cite a laundry list of unrelated crimes to support their warped point of view. They speak of human trafficking, drug addiction, vicious pimps, rape and murder
