How to handle a long-distance relationship

The love of your life has just moved to the other side of the country and is at least a 7 hour drive away. Things were getting better and better between you but unfortunately university has separated you for the next three years, or has it? There are ways and means to make a long distance relationship work. If you love and trust each other then there should be no problem in keeping in touch and keeping the passion in your relationship. But how best to do this without losing your trust completely?

Internet

The worldwide web is a fabulous thing and lets you keep in touch with your loved one in several different ways. Firstly you can chat live on messenger and use a webcam so that you can also see each other. No matter that time of the day you can hook up online and fill each other in on what has been happening. Emails are another way to keep up to speed with what is happening and share your feelings with each other. Perhaps you are your boyfriend use social networking sites, here too you can post comments, pictures and send private emails.

Mobile Phones

Whoever invented mobile phones was a genius. Anytime you wish to speak to your other half they are only a phone call away. Even better why not surprise them with some raunchy text messages. With SMS you will feel as if you are never left your other half's side.

Surprise meetings

On the weekend why not take a train or bus journey and surprise your other half by turning up on their doorstep. You could plan a fun day out, and make a habit of it every weekend. You could take it in turns to travel to each other's home towns. You will learn to look forward to these unexpected meetings and it will seem as if you are never apart.

Gifts

Sending and receiving parcels containing gifts and memories of each other in the post is a great way to keep the spark in your relationship, whether it be a photo frame or a key ring containing a recent picture of you and your other half.

If you love someone whether they live in the same house as you or a different continent there are always ways to bring you together and keep your relationship alive. It is important to realise that distance is only temporary and remember that absence makes the heart grow fonder. Whenever you do spend time together you will learn to make the most of it and cherish it. Trust is a massive part of any relationship and distance should not complicate this.
