How to pick the right skateboard for you

Picking the right skateboard for yourself comes from experimentation. Over time a skateboarder develops a sense of style. Through experimentation a skateboarder figures out what they like, what works for them and what brand they like. A lot of different methods apply when a skater chooses the right skateboard for themselves. This decision is based off the company/brand, the professional team members that ride for these brands, measurements and weights, configurements, graphics, the way the skateboard is built and what the skateboard is built with (not all skateboards are made of wood).

FOR BEGINNERS...

As a beginner you might find the task of picking out your first skateboard a nightmare. You may lack knowledge of the industry, know very little or know nothing at all. For the beginners who are knowledgeable of the industry, they will probably walk into their local skate shop and easily decide on what kind of skateboard they want. For the rest, don't stress. You will truly never know what works for you until your out their skateboarding! It's advisable for the ones who know little or nothing at all about the sport to purchase a blank deck. Blank decks are decks that are cheaper in cost because they lack graphic detail. For the most part they truly are blank! These decks generally contain one logo and most blank decks you will see in a skate shop contain the skate shop's logo. These decks may be cheaper then the rest, but they are still high in quality. Blank decks are perfect for beginners.

Chances are, the first brand, kind, size of skateboard you purchase will not be the same the next time you purchase your second skateboard. As I stated earlier picking the right skateboard for yourself comes from experimentation. You might of found that your first skateboard was too heavy, broke easily, was too wide, too long, etc. These things are great to pick up on. The next time you walk back into the skate shop you will know what didn't work for you.

A skateboard is a deck! I won't discuss trucks, wheels and hardware. I will not even discuss a complete skateboard because that ties in with trucks, wheels and hardware. The same method of experimentation applies to all components to make up a complete skateboard.

I will not tell you to not go to your large department stores and purchase a deck. Sounds crazy right? Skateboards found in your large department stores are low in quality and they do produce a bigger safety risk, but how much do you plan on using your skateboard?
