Coffee or Tea or both? Both of these beverages have long been incorporated into the daily lives of people around the world. In America, many people consume both beverages with coffee typically being served hot in the morning and tea served iced throughout the day. In more recent years, largely due to businesses such as Starbucks and The Coffee Bean trendy iced, flavored coffees have become very popular.

Coffee has been consumed since the ninth century when Ethiopians began using native coffee bean. Arab trade helped spread the beans throughout the world. As coffee moved through India to Europe and then into America it gradually evolved to what it is today. Despite the American style of brewing a pot of coffee the majority of the world uses instant coffee. This is a much more efficient way of making a cup of fresh coffee. Doctors have debated back and forth or decades on whether or not to endorse coffee as a beneficial beverage or dissuade people from drinking coffee. Coffee (regular coffee) has caffeine which can be beneficial. It boosts one's metabolism. A faster metabolism means you burn fat and have more energy. Also, most people find that a cup of coffee can deliver that morning or afternoon pick me up. However, caffeine can also raise one's blood pressure, causing medical problems commonly associated with high blood pressure. So, in moderation, it appears that coffee can provide consumers with a nice boost of energy to get their day started without any health risks.

Tea has been around much longer than coffee. It was first used as a beverage in Asia in almost 3000BC. Since that time, tea has evolved and changed and diversified. Today, tea is the second most consumed beverage worldwide. There are many types of tea on the market. The most common are black tea and green tea. America, again, is different in that Americans consume much more hot coffee than hot tea. In most countries it is the other way around. Also, Americans drink much more iced tea than other countries. In the southern states sweet tea is more prevalent. Numerous studies have been done on both the positive and negative effects of tea on humans. Many studies have shown that tea has similar effects if not better effects on weight loss and appetite suppression than coffee has. Also, some studies suggest that certain teas have beneficial effects on cancer treatment and prevention. There are 700 chemicals in tea leaves. Many on those chemicals are vital nutrients that improve immune system and healing in humans.

Tea has many more advocates when it comes to health advantages, however one must remember that tea is much more widely consumed and therefore much more researched. So, tea and coffee are both very popular and very diverse. When it comes down to it one must decide which they prefer: coffee, tea or both.
