Poetry: Nature & preservation

by Maria Ragan

Created on: May 29, 2009

When my eagle flew above your head

Did you forget that it was me

Sending you a message

So that you could finally see

Did you ever hear the subtle voice

Of the teaching of a tree

Or were you simply too busy

To keep it's company

Did you ever feel the significance

Of a single grain of sand

That reminded you of your worth

In the safety of my hand

When you stood upon the earth

Tell me what you learned

For of this soil I made you

And to this soil you will return

When you felt the rush of water

And tasted it so cold

Did you think of all the mystery

That one drop of water holds

When you caught a glimpse of my sacred crow

And thought he was so plain

Did you realize he was your protector

From that mornings sting of pain

When you kept yourself inside

Protected from the wind

Do you know you missed the blessings

That my spirit ushered in

Mother earth is pleading

We must listen while we can

To save ourselves from heartache

From the loss of this great land
