How to Live Green Everyday

Going Green is all about making conscious choices that lesson our environmental impact in our everyday life. Making green choices will ensure a greener future for upcoming generations.

1. Reduce your waste

1. Recycle your paper plastic and metal waste

2. Use a compost for all of your organic waste

3. Find creative ways to reuse materials that you would normally throw out

4. Buy reusable supplies as opposed to disposable

Conserve Natural Resources & Energy Cut down on your water use Use restraint Fix leaking faucets or pipes Install reduced flow showerheads and faucets Reduce energy used by your vehicle Buy a hybrid (not everyone has the resources to do this so here are a few tips for the rest of us) Do monthly maintenance Check to be sure air in tires in is at optimal level Check and change your air filter when necessary Check and change oil when necessary Keep your gas marker above the half tank mark Reduce electricity use Keep lights off during the day

Use ENERGY STAR appliances and electronics and unplug equipment not in use

Use energy efficient light bulbs

4. Reduce energy used on heat

Insulate and tighten your home to prevent heat from escaping. You should check insulation levels and air leaks between your living space and the attic.

Replace old windows or cover them with plastic (remember to store plastic and use it again next year)

Close off rooms that aren't in use Reduce energy used on hot water Turn hot water tank down to 120F Install low flow shower heads Properly insulate hot water tank Use cold water for rinsing and cooking Go organic Buy organic food. Farmers who grow organic produce fewer pollutants. Organic is also healthier for you. Use organic or natural cleaners Look for organic and natural products or remedies whenever possible

Use cloth diapers & wipes

Don't use paper towels use recycled rags instead

Look for the recycled symbol on all of your purchases

Florescent lighting reduces energy use by 1/3
